This piano lesson was very funny. I meant to go to my teacher's house with something to give her for teachers' day, but in the end I ended up going for lesson with nothing in hand. Then when I got to my teacher's house, I got to my teacher's house, I decided to 'keep quiet', 'cos I had no card or anything.
Anyway, the lesson was normal, it was what happened before and after the lesson that was (can't think of a word). Before the lesson started, my teacher told me the confirmed date for her student piano recital. Yah, I knew that she was going to hold a piano recital with her students performing, and that I was going to be playing one or two songs. But I hadn't really thought of where she would be holding it. I was thinking along the lines of maybe all of us squeezing in her house or something. Then my teacher told me: she booked a small auditorium in Yamaha music school. Which had a grand piano. The concert grand. The original big one. Not some small cute 'lil version of a grand piano. OMG. I was thinking, "what the heck, grand piano...", then she dropped the bomb- the performance was going to have around 120 people in the audience. WTH. I didn't know my teacher had so many students. (The lessons are one to one, not group)
I dunno how I'm gonna pull it off. Even during the piano exams I make minor mistakes here and there. The last one, I even stopped for a split second for one of the pieces. My hands just suddenly froze. Sigh... humiliation is inevitable. I hope I'm wrong. Currently, the plan is for me to play Yesterday (yes the beatles one), and another song. Aargh. I just hope other students also make mistakes :)
Well, on second thoughts, it does seem like almost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not many people get to play on a concert grand piano. The big one. I hope I can make the best of this opportunity.
After the lesson ended, I finally decided I had to wish my teacher "Happy Teachers' Day". I mumbled the first time round. She couldn't hear. Made it even more awkward for me.
And to cap of this surprise filled piano lesson, on the way back home, when I got of the bus I was on, I realised it was advertising for X&Y :) No wonder I was feeling funny on the bus, lol.
