Well, once again, another normal day at school. I was a bit dissapointed that the Chem double period was used for lessons instead of practical. No, I'm not that crazy about practical, just that there was supposed to be a second test for SPA 2,3 (S[cience?] Practical Assesment Skill 2 & 3). I didn't do that well for the first, I think, so I was hoping to have a second chance at reaching Level 6 (The highest level for the assesment)
The specifics of the first SPA 2/3 test. Titration. My results were 18.8 , then 18.7. I though, "one more results then can already." But as luck would have it, I got 18.6. I freaked out, man. "Should I take the first two readings or the second and thirds ones?". In the end I decided to do another titration. Got another 18.6. There. But then I didn't know how to explain why I continued doing up to 4 titrations... Sigh... there goes my level 6. Just when I got a 'perfect presentation of working' remark on my previous SPA practice.
Anyway, my teacher finally received the postphoned date for my piano exam. I had to postphone it 'cos the date I originally got was 21 Aug. Clashed with my Perth Camp. Of all the dates they had to give me one that clashed with my Camp. Made me really stressed. My teacher told me that if they coudn't get me a postphoned date, then I couldn't take the exam, and they would only refund me less than 50% of the exam fee! that's less than half of $100+!!! I had to get a letter from the school to prove that I couldn't make it to the exam on the 21st. Very troublesome. Because of that, though, I managed to see that the black and white notices the school issues are actually beige and red before photocopying. Haha, they gave me a beige and red letter. That's how I knew.
Well, now I've got a postphoned date. 15 Aug. That's about 3 weeks away. I'm getting very bored practicing scales and the exam pieces. 'Been doing that for over half a year already. I think I 'peaked' long ago. My fingers are feeling very werid now when I play the exam pieces. Gotta practice more...
Oh, yah, one more thing. The Piano exam is like a money sucker, man. Besides the very high "examination fee", which costs $150+ for grade 6 (the grade I'm taking) and up to $1000 (no kidding!) for the diploma, the centres holding the exam also get to make a killing! A pianist, unlike most other musicians, cannot bring his own instrument about, so us exam candidates have to practice on the pianos at the exam venues to get used to the 'feel of the piano'. And those centres sure know how to "rob in daylight", man! The centre, or 'piano school' I'm taking my exam at, Motivation Music School (crappy name), charged $30 for an hour! No choice, I had to book a practice session. And that's on top of the $150+ exam fee! That's why I've gotta pass :)
I'll most probably pass, though, unless for some reason my nerves get a lot more worse than they already are during exams. Aiming for distinction. 130+/150. I got 126 for my grade 5 pratical exam. Merit. Never got distinction before. Quite proud of my Grade 5 Theory, though. Full marks!!! Yeah!!! Got full marks for my Grade 2 theory exam too. the rest were all 95+.
Anyway, my exam is in the morning, for the first time (the last 5 times were all in the afternoon), so I think I have to skip school. A little happy, but at the same time guilty. I'll most probably be skipping exam revisions...
Another thing, I hope I wasn't too confusing about the Piano exams. There are 2 different types. Theory and Practical. Read properly above. I'm better at Theory, haha :) I'm quite lazy at practicing piano. Ok, very lazy. But once I start practicing, I can go on for hours. It's very fun. I sort of have an 'on-and-off' passion for piano :)
Sort of influenced by my very passionate piano teacher. I don't want to become, in her words (sort of, can't quite remember), "One of those who learn until Grade 8, then stop. And completely forget how to play the piano." That's really cham. So that's why I'm trying to memorise some songs to play at leisure. Playing Yesterday recently. It's a great song, and still great when played on the piano. Oh, and the version I'm playing, according to the footnotes of the score, is the one used in Mr Bean the Movie. Lol.
Yesterday - The Beatles
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Suddenly, I’m not half the man I used to be,
There’s a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.
Why she had to go I don’t know she wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Mm mm mm mm mm.
Yay, another long post!
