I thought I'd do quite well for Oral Defence. I rehersed like mad. But it just didn't turn out the way I imagined.
Let's talk about what went right first. I wasn't nervous at all. I think I articulated my words quite properly, though I didn't speak much. Kala interrupted me. I managed to maintain eye contact with the judges/teachers. Paul Ho seemed subdued though. I thought he was a fierce teacher. Kala just stared back at me. But I wasn't intimidated
Getting Kala and Paul Ho as my judges wasn't too bad. But it was the questions they asked. And when they chose to ask them.
They started the Q&A even before I finished my presentation! What the heck. That caught me off guard. We're supposed to be given 4 mins for presentation and 6 minutes for oral defence. Dammit. So I didn't really go through with my perfected presentation. I was halfway through my research rationale, when Kala stopped me and said, "Ok, what're your research questions". I was like, err... wait la. But I just told her my research questions anyway. Then she asked me about my paper's aim. What the heck. Doesn't the topic tell you what the paper aims to find out? Then they asked me about the makeup of my survey sample. LOL, I had to lie about that one. I didn't really do the survey. Who does?!
Anyway, the questions kept coming. There was one about why S'poreans' opinions of Lee Hsien Loong changed. I just told them! I said they have seen LHL in action, understand more... etc. But Paul Ho said my paper should have looked what LHL actually did. Hello? My paper looks at the opinions S'poreans have of LHL! Not what LHL did. Who cares what LHL did?! Of course, I didn't say that out loud.
I knew I was really dead when Kala said, "Your research paper isn't really like a research paper." WTF. Give me some respect, man. I just stared back at her. Ok, maybe I didn't really stare, but I refused to comment about that. Ms Teo passed my paper. Ms Teo. Kala must be crazy to say that. She isn't even a history teacher. What does and english teacher know about MRP? Writing style? Language? LOL
Sigh.... the whole Oral Defence didn't go as planned.... It's not fair. Whoever planned the Oral Defence schedule should get another job. Though I was put in the morning session, it was only my turn at 1.30pm. So I waited for 5.5hours. Almost 6 WHOLE hours. WTH. I took the PCME quiz in the morning at 7.30 (LOL), and then when I went to my designated venue, they told us to wait at the library, come back in 2 hours time. So I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Until 1.30pm. I planned to do some Chem and a lot of Physics, but I ended up sleeping a bit, then doing the Chem, then walking around. I wasn't in any mood to study in school. The library isn't avery conducive environment to study. For me, at least. The air-con makes me sleepy. The more I waited, the more bored I got. When it was almost my turn, I was in no mood to study already...
Anyway, I think I might be able to pass. If not, there goes my A2 for IH. Damn you Kala.
I heard some students from another school got suspended 'cos they insulted their teacher on their blogs. Don't think any teacher would read my blog.... And anyway, I wasn't really flaming Kala. Was I? I intended to, though. Maybe I'll put a disclaimer at the main page of my blog.
Oops. Blogged too much. Back to physics now
