I never really knew what to expect for orientation. No one (senior) ever told me anything about it. And I never asked anyone about it. So, well, I didn't know what to expect.
Spent the first few hours in the auditorium. The first hour felt especially long. Talk by principal. "One big FAH-mily" *. Then we had another one or two hours of talks. All about the various subjects. And next came the introduction of the councillors. I must say they put quite a lot of time into the whole "introduction part". Well choreographed, lol. But the hanging thing (banner?) at the back looked really shabby. Nice drawing though.
Recess passed by quite fast. I wanted to go to back to the high school canteen, but I ended up at poolside cafe. "..." We got back into the auditorium a few minutes late to some woman's shouting. Man, was she b*tchy. She wasn't shouting at us specifically anyway. There were still a lot of people streaming in. We just got back to our seats. The more that woman talked, the more I disliked her. And just my luck. Turns out she's teaching bio to the JC1s. Aargh. At least I'm only doing bio at H1.
Lunch break (roti prata, yum), then we headed to the hall and got into the orientation groups (OGs). I didn't really know anyone in my group, except for Choon Boon, dammit. Ice breakers was just the usual. Whack-o. Can't they think of something more unique? Oh, yeah, there was the "Pocky game" ( I think that's what it was called). You had to passed this stick of chocolate coated biscuit (Pocky), to the person beside you using only mouths, and each time you have to bite a bit off. The person left with an "un-passable" piece has to do a forfeit. What a crappy game. Ended up passing the biscuit around by hands, behind the OG leader's back, of course.
After that we headed back to the auditorium to learn the mass dances. That wasn't fun at all. In the first place, I never really danced. And I don't really like to dance. I'm not very spontaineous. But I was willing to learn. They never gave me a chance though. I couldn't see the demonstrators properly! All I could see was their upper bodies. So I didn't catch the feet movements. I was feeling like a fool during the first dance. But fortunately one of the councillors around me demonstrated the next two dances, so I could sort of manage. Sort of. I'm just not a good dancer.
Then next came songs. I didn't know there'd be an English school song too. I already knew the Chinese one, of course- it's the same as the high school side's. Then we learnt another one or two songs.
Cheers next. I tried to shout as loud as possible. But I don't think it was that loud. I've always had a "soft" voice. And I think my throat isn't that well.... Just a bit of shouting, and a dry cough broke out. Aargh
Well, that was about it for today. The first day of orientation. I was a little dissapointed, though. I didn't really talk to anyone in my group at all. Even Choon Boon was more friendly than me. What am I saying? He's OVER-friendly. Ah well. I hope I can make some new friends tomorrow.
Oh yeah! Tomorrow's a slack day. A few hours of talks, then we collect some "Orientation Package", and we're dismissed! Except for those who're taking the selection tests for special programmes. Since I've already decided not to take Science Special Programme, or any of the Maths programmes, I can go home early!
Oh, almost forgot. The theme/slogan(whatitscalled) of the orientation- Let's Jam. Crappy. No, I added the "crappy". It's not part of the theme/slogan(whatitscalled). Now that would really be crappy.
Woah. I'm so proud of myself. I've finally broken the curse and blogged a (relatively) long post.
*In NO WAY am I implying that the above quote was of the principal. Think what you want.
Lol- the asterisk was referring to the quote, not "bitchy". Oops.
